PKG files are package files that could be used for packaging and installation purposes by various operating systems, which include Mac OS X and Symbian.
For Symbian OS PKG files are typically not used directly and could be only opened as part of SIS installation packages. If PKG file is part of SIS installation package then it typically contains installation instructions in text form and could be opened by any text editor. You can get details of PKG file format for Symbian at Symbian Developer Library PKG page. It is recommended to refer to Symbian help on the process of SIS files creation and installation.
PKG files for Mac OS can be installed through the application installer offered by Apple. When PKG file is recognized by the Mac OS operating system, it can easily be opened by simply double clicking on it. By doing this, you will be able to open and install those applications that are installed on the system which are linked to the PKG files. However, when the system encounters a file of PKG type for the first time and it does not have the correct associations, the operating system will offer to find the appropriate software.
Prior to launching PKG file on Mac OS it is recommended to click right mouse button on it and select “Show package contents” from the popup menu. This way you can check what is inside the package to see if there is any malware located in it.
Besides opening PKG file with operating system capabilities you can download a program compatible with the PKG extension. For example, the following programs:
Please note that applications above are specific to different PKG file formats and different PKG files may only open by software compatible with it.
If you have a compatible PKG file, just have one of these programs installed on our system and just double-click on the PKG file you wish to access, it should open immediately.
